About the event
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be followed by a presentation from local Historian Gordon Lascelles
William Rayson Smith is a local man who hardly left his native land being baptised in Dickleburgh Church in 1841 and married at St Mary’s Church in Redenhall. Shortly after marriage the couple moved to Canada, but returned to England in about 1887 where he lived in Harleston for the rest of his life. William appears to have taken up photography whilst he was living in Canada and on his return took many photographs of the local area and his relatives, providing a fascinating insight into life in Harleston in the late 19th and early 20th Century.
Local historian Gordon Lascelles will take us through the life of William and explore some of his wonderful photographs as we step back in time to Victorian Harleston.
