About the event

Harleston and the surrounding area is a graveyard to military aircraft and a provides a poignant reminder of the loss of life in war and conflict.

  • 20th July 1917 involving the Royal Flying Corps Maurice Farman Shorthorn Bi-plane
  • 21st August 1940 the Starston Dornier crash involving a German Luftwaffe Aircraft
  • 18th February 1942 involving a Royal Air Force Miles Master Aircraft
  • 9th March 1942 a Royal Air Force Wellington Bomber crashed on Briar Farm near Jays Green in Harleston.  Tragically on the same day of 9th March 1942 a Royal Air Force Hawker Hurricane also crashed
  • 11th April 1945 the greatest loss of life in our area came when on two USA Air Force B-24 Liberator Bombers crashed near Redenhall and;
  • 21st June 1945 another fateful crash involving a USA Air Force P-51D Mustang.
